Though we may have the majority of the breeds lined up during the Herding Group competitions except for the German Shepherds, it is to the Philippines' Purebred Dog Sports' advantage that we consistently present these herding breeds, win or lose. In shows where Cob has no entry, shown in the Herding Group would only be just GSD's. It is somewhat disappointing that it is so. Knowing how far the GSD roots are embedded on Philippine grounds, considering too that the GSD fanciers here in the country have German-rated stocks imported in almost every month, it remains forever a dream for newbies in the ring to win over this popular breed. Winning over GSD's is a major accomplishment. And the Cob herding dogs have successfully done that including our own home-breds going Best In Group.
It goes without saying that we don't necessarily breed these breeds, we just show them and if ever we do, we do it on a very selective and limited breeding program. Currently, we are concentrating on our Australian Shepherds and Belgian Groenendaels. The Shetland Sheepdogs that we have, the Pembroke Welsh Corgis that we co-own are all intended just for show purposes just to keep the Herding Group competitions going. Any wins we may have are just bonuses for our cause.
What we breed, we normally just keep for ourselves unless we really find according to our standards, a perfectly good substitute home for a Cob dog. We still feel that a dog is a pack animal and a good substitute is that of a human pack where the dog becomes a member of the family.
We have, in the past adopted retired dogs from the showring. In return, we also share the same to those who much feel the same way as we do. We have retired show dogs that would be much happier with a family to call their own. If you feel you are qualified, please do not hesitate and contact us. At Cob, we call it the Alphabet program... let's start with the ABCD!
