How Serious Are We With Our Breeding Program?
Excuse us ... Heeellllloooo! How serious can one possibly get? Like ICU, and how serious are you? Excuse the pun but it's not anything like the care given at Intensive Care Unit in a hospital. Nothing like that ... yet! LOL! But yes, we do take our breeding program quite seriously. When we breed, we aim to improve the breed, taking all necessary steps to produce puppies that come as close to the breed standard as possible. We pioneer breeds in the country. We have successfully introduced breeds of superior quality in the Philippine Dog Ring and continuously safeguard these breeds from irresponsible ownership and breeding. We have in the past imported the best lines possible to be the foundation stocks of the breeds in the Philippines. The pedigrees of our foundation stocks speak for itself, line-bred to legendary dogs of the breed. We believe in breed type but of course, according to our type and base our breeding program from there. We sometimes experiment in terms of in-breeding then out to make certain traits stronger or weed out faults. In doing so, we do get undesirables which we place as pets, never to be bred. If a breeding comes out as a disaster, then we are compelled to cull or put to sleep to put the puppies out of misery. We believe that FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION, our SUCCESS DESIGNED ... OUR BREEDING PLANNED: All Cob Dogs are given the same tender loving care by our kennel staff from daily check-ups and administration of vitamins, feeding, play and a bit of training and exercise through morning and afternoon romps in the playground or swim in the pool. All Cob dogs are bathed at least once a week together with nail clipping and other grooming essentials. Cob Dogs are weighed every two weeks for proper maintenance of weight and conditioning. Included in the daily routine is checking the vulva of all bitches, jotted down and recorded. We rarely have an accidental breeding, if necessary, we abort the mating or if it's too late, we automatically place the puppies in pet homes by giving it away. With the efficient recording, we are able to keep track of heat cycles, weight loss and effects of dog food brands by observation. Cob puppies require more attention, care is adjusted to the age group. Puppies below one month are weighed daily while those over a month are weight every week. When we have puppies, we keep them in a controlled environment with only two people handling them inside the 24-hour sanitized air-conditioned room. Puppies are dewormed at 3 weeks and and every three weeks onwards and their first booster shot is at 6 weeks. At seven, we subject them to a more natural environment, in the playground and introduce them slowly to puppies of various ages to dogs of different breeds. While at play, we observe keenly and slowly break them with leashes. At age, 2 to two and a half months, Cob pups are show-trained, stacks and walks on lead. By 4 months old, we enter them in the Baby Puppy Class towards a show career until they finish their Championships. Our breeding stock and their offsprings are therefore evaluated by different judges, tested and certified to confirm that they are truly improving the breed and/or preserving the breed’s form and function accomplished through dog sports such as conformation shows, obedience trials and whenever possible, agility activities. We actively participate in DOG SHOWS and VARIOUS RELATED DOG ACTIVITIES to constantly evaluate the form and function of our chosen breeds. We try to gather more knowledge and information about our breeds and find the right breeding stock for our next generation of better puppies. In the show ring, we take photographs or video of all our dogs and competition for further study. In showing, we consider factors such as condition of the dog; the judges; the competition; the location of the show among other things. We aim to EDUCATE, INFORM and PROMOTE the breeds accordingly. We are VERY SELECTIVE in placing COB DOGS and PUPS. We do not breed unless we are ready to provide the best care possible to our breeding ourselves. We only start to consider breeding a bitch at full maturity of over 3 years old after having been retired from the ring. We GUARANTEE all our breeding accordingly. We are open for CO-OWNERSHIP to show homes, aspiring responsible breeders or simply to dog-lovers who long for the companionship and love of man's best friends, SPAYED or NEUTERED. We often advice prospective buyers who intend to show or breed not to buy puppies i.e. less than a year old. We guarantee in terms of whether a puppy is "finishable" and not just of "show quality". We expect people who want Cob Dogs to be as honest in their intentions as we are with our Cob Dogs. This is how serious we are at Cob! Home of Best In Group and Best In Show Baby Puppies
