| Although,
Corazon has been around in the Philippine dog show scene since she was
16 years old and have been with dogs since her grade school years, she
never bred seriously and just showed for the fun of it. In the
ring, she would handle her toy dogs around and side by side with Penny
during the Shih Tzu breed competitions. Together, they were the
youngest of the founding members of the Philippine Shih Tzu Club, Inc.
that we know today. In the past, she has won "Best Lady
Handler Award" and owner-handled the first Shih Tzu, BAILIFF LAINE
OF KENNAQUHAIR, to have won an All Breeds Best In Show sponsored by the
Veterinary association at the time. She only bred once under
Kennaquhair which people found very hard to pronounce.
Being the dog
lover that Corazon was, she would come in and out of the scene
owner-handling different breeds in between the demands of either school
or work during the 80's. From toy breeds to non-sporting, the
hounds to the working breeds. In the mid-80's, she tried breeding
German Shepherds and Boxers. Plagued with the dreaded canine parvo-virus,
she decided not to breed until such time that better vaccines are
developed and the virus was completely gone in the area.
In 1993, she
followed her heart and broke-off from the family business and put up
COB, Incorporated. Cob, short for Cobra. It was also during
this time that she bought a Chinese Shar-Pei and named it COBI after the
company. Believing the Chinese Shar-Pei breeders at the time that
the breed is a rarity and that it was "officially-unrecognized"
so-to-speak, she successfully bred wrinklies. By early 1995, back
in the show ring with various breeds except for the one she was
breeding, she found out that the Chinese Shar-Pei was already accepted
and recognized. She set out for North America, brought home
HAPITAILS MI-TU MUGZY MALONE and the rest is history.
The very first
litter ever registered under COB was in December 15, 1995 ... hence, the
birth of Cob Kennels. Situated at Baranggay Sto. Domingo, the
environment was less than conducive to the rearing of puppies. It
was also in 1995 that she uprooted her dogs and bought the lot in
Bulacan. Construction of roads, amenities and facilities started
in May 1998. In the provinces where roads are yet to be built and
small towns folks knew everyone, when asking for directions, one only
needs to ask "Saan 'yung maraming aso?" and one gets a quick
reply, "Ah, ưung bahay ng aso ... doon!"
