Showing Cob Dogs

It goes without saying, we breed what we show and we show what we breed.

Cob has been around for quite sometime now since its first litter in December of 1995.  By 1996, it was known to be the Home of the Best Baby Puppy In Show Winners.  One after the other, Cob Puppies kept winning the award every dog show and it continued on till the succeeding year.

Cob won its first Best-In-Show in 1997 and by that time the puppies have grown.  All the foundation stock one by one finished their Grand Championship garnering major group wins or placements gathering points for their Hall of Fame Status.

By 1998, the puppies have grown, finished their championships.  From  #4 Top Breeder in ranking, Cob became #1 by 1999.  Corazon. C. Salazar was Top Breeder for 2 consecutive years and # 2 for the year 2001.  Having bred over a hundred champions,60 Philippine Grand Champions and 4 Home-bred Show Dogs Hall of Fame.

Known as any Breed Clubs biggest supporter, Cob had been known to always have the biggest number of entries at Metro-Manila shows.  A dog show isn't just the same without the Cob Kennels gang!

Oftentimes, including judges, are in awe once they find out that roughly 10 sometimes 20 % of the entries are all Cob dogs!  we normally cause delays in shows because of the lack of handlers for our dogs!

Unsolicited opinions of course is not much of value, Cob wears its blinders.  Much talk has been uttered as to show people wandering why Cob seldom sells its litters or for the amount of dog that Cob's keep, one for surely can buy just one top caliber dog that can win BIS all the way.  So, why doesn't Cob do that instead of the whole slew of dogs tugged along every dog show.  Cob Kennels is easily spotted with the most number of vari-kennels stacked in one corner.   And the Cob pack just smiles.

More so, the Cob Kennel Gang often wish they don't place second in group competitions nor win any BIG awards if possible 'coz the staff and the dog would much rather go home early and not wait for the BIS competition much later during the day.

Of course, the Cob dogs would much rather be in the doggie haven in Bulacan where they are given the good life and treated right!  The Staff would also rather retire early on Sunday afternoons and relax!

Cob's goal may be forever an enigma.  We follow a rigid process of selection in our breeding programs.  We do not breed any of our bitches unless it has finished its championship and has been officially retired from the show ring.  Some never even get bred and just get spayed even after they have finished their Grand Championships or even Hall of Fame.

Official records show that Cob has the most number of titled dogs in a limited span of time in its existence.  While others vie for the same stature, it is highly unlikely for the another kennel to covet the recognition awards that Cob has managed to accomplish in such a short period of time.

Out of the Cob dogs that is maintained, only 15% have not finished their championships.  While many kennels may show 5 to 10 specimens per show, the stock that they keep in their backyard have never been to shows and they get bred to the ones in the ring.  Except for the toy breeds that are merely just pets and just meant to be loved, all of the Cob dogs are of show quality.

All Cob Dogs are show dogs to say the least.  Not all show dogs are breeding material either.  Not all top-winning dogs are producers.  Cob uses the dog shows as activity for its dogs and staff to fine-tune their craft.  It's a fun day away from work much like a week-end barbecue.  Dog shows too are opportunities for Cob dogs to get socialized and have a life outside the doggie haven.  The judges' opinion are valued and used as checkpoints for future breeding selection.  It is also a way of checking if the judges' for the day did their homework.

Winning big of course is honourable.  But sometimes, what really matters is how one accomplishes its goals.  Cob may not have an All-Time-BIS-Winner to brag not that we haven't won BIS in the past.  We may not always win the group and to others, we acknowledge that we will always place in group competitions because we happen to be the "Herding Group" but what it boils down to is that Cob dogs shouldn't place if the judge does not see our dogs fit!  And besides, our home-breds are winning over the imported and really expensive dogs.

Also spares us the bonuses to the handlers!!!  The extra expense of throwing win-blow-outs to friends.

And the best part of it all is that we have more friends.  We keep our friends, value  and nurture friendships we make in the dog world.

Need we say more?
