Breeding Cob Dogs

It goes without saying, we show what we breed and we breed what we show.

When we breed, we aim to improve the breed, taking all necessary steps to produce puppies that come as close to the breed standard as possible.  We believe that FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION.

Our breeding stock and their offspring are evaluated, tested and certified to confirm that they are truly improving the breed and/or preserving the breed’s form and function accomplished through dog sports such as conformation shows, obedience trials and whenever possible, agility activities.

We actively participate in DOG SHOWS and VARIOUS RELATED DOG ACTIVITIES to constantly evaluate the form and function of our chosen breeds.  We try to gather more knowledge and information about our breeds and find the right breeding stock for our next generation of better puppies.  We have successfully pioneered and introduced breeds of superior quality in the Philippine Dog Ring and continuously safeguard these breeds from irresponsible ownership and breeding.

We aim to EDUCATE, INFORM  and PROMOTE the breeds accordingly.

All these Cob Pups are now Philippine Champions!  One third are Philippine Grand and 2 are Show Dogs Hall of Fame Awardees!

NOT ALL PUPS ARE CREATED EQUAL!

For Cob, breeding is an art form.  It is important for a breeder to develop an eye for perfection.  True, beauty is in the eye of the beholder but just as in any art form, there are various principles and techniques applied to accomplish works of art.  Symmetry, balance, form, and structure to mention a few of the basic principles.  Through constant practice do skills develop and if possible with applied precision with each stroke just so when a painter does with his brush.  Not only is breeding an art but it also involves science and a lot of research.  Knowledge of genetics, a little of biology and a lot of methodology are necessary.  To be a breeder is not as simple as having a male dog hump a female bitch on heat although if nature takes its course, this is more than likely what will take place and with not just one male.  The law of nature works on the principle of "survival of fittest" which is not so with Responsible and Ethical Breeding.

Developing an eye for beauty is essential.  Knowing the principles first is a must.  For each breed, the set standards is the "perfect dog".  Of course, we mortals can only hope for perfection and breeding gives us this reward, the closest we can get to perfection per se.  It is an extension of man's ego that passion evolves from.  And through dog shows do we subject our produce for evaluation.

At Cob, top bloodlines were researched prior to importing its foundation stocks.  With the Belgian Groenendael, the lines go back to the unbeatable All-Time-Best-In-Show Belgian Sheepdog.  Direct descendants are currently from top-winning dogs in the highly acclaimed Westminster Show.  The same goes for the Australian Shepherd breed which goes back to the legendary All Time Best Bayshore Flapjack.  In 2001, Cob imported a Westminster Show Special Award of Merit Winner.  As for the Golden Retrievers, the lines go back to the much acclaimed Asterling's Wild Blue Yonder.

Cob's dream is not just to import a dog that can win BIS one after the other or be PCCI's Top Dog of The Year.  Our passion is deeper.  Someday, we at Cob wish to breed an All-Time-Legend in the breed that would pass on its genes towards the improvement of the breed itself.  With meticulous methodology, we apply breeding principles and techniques.  We believe in "form follows function"; not just "aesthetics".  To a certain extent, we deliberately show dogs that has not been given a bath or been brushed much to the dismay of judges, handlers and spectators.  It's a joke on our part because the breed standard says, "shown in natural state or condition"!

ROFL!

And yes!  There have been occasions when our home-breds won over the imported ones in that condition.  For more on our breeding program, click above image!

We are VERY SELECTIVE in placing COB DOGS and PUPSWe do not breed unless we are ready to provide the best care possible to our breeding ourselves.  We only start to consider breeding a bitch at full maturity of over 3 years old after having been retired from the ring.

We GUARANTEE all our breeding accordingly. We are open for CO-OWNERSHIP to show homes, aspiring responsible breeders or simply to dog-lovers who long for the companionship and love of man's best friends, SPAYED or NEUTERED.
