- The best of all
possible worlds: symmetry, power, beauty and grace. The Golden
Retriever is a beautifully balanced, sound canine of imposing elegance and
kindly expression.
- The Golden's
ancestors, ancient Caucasus sheepdogs, were the much trusted flock guards
for Russian shepherds who entrusted their charges to these slow working
enduring dogs. So impressed by a troup of tehse dogs in a circus,
the persuasive Lord Tweedmouth dryly talked his way into ownership of the
performing canines. Transported to Scotland, they became known as
Guisachan Retrievers.
- More recent
discoveries, however, take a little sparkle and doesn't rely on
Tweedmouth's fleeting circus fancy. The Golden was developed through
crosses of the Tweed Water Soaniel, a light-weight Newfoundland and other
setter crosses.
- Affection and
uncommonly good-natured, his retrievering and upland game abilities
combined with flawless disposition and inspiring beauty are indicative of
his unparallelled popularity, Despite the breed's enviable obedience
trial records, many pet Goldens tend to be fuzzy-minded and should be kept
active and free of monotonous routine.
- The coat is dense
and water repellent with good undercoat.
- They kinda smell
like chickens.
